Food Processors in the Hunt for Low Linolenic Beans
With the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requiring trans fatty acids or trans fat contents on nutrition labels in January 2006, foodservice and processor companies are eager to find ways to lower unhealthy trans fat contents in their products.

Currently, Monsanto, Pioneer and Iowa State University are making high-quality, low linolenic varieties available to processors, allowing them to improve oil contents in their products, thereby retaining freshness, removing trans fats and providing a more stable product that does not require hydrogenation.
