What is QUALISOY?
QUALISOY™ is a one-of-a-kind agricultural initiative designed to unite the soybean industry with a goal of helping to market the development and availability of healthier, more functional products available in the marketplace. It was born out of a farmer-led effort to unite the industry with the purpose of identifying and developing superior soybean traits. This collaborative effort involves virtually every link in the food production chain, from seed breeders to the feed industry.

One of QUALISOY’s long-term visions is to introduce soybean varieties with enhanced compositional traits that meet the needs of the feed industry. These traits include improved soybean meal digestibility to enhance feeding efficiencies and reduce environmental impacts of livestock production.

Soybean meal demand in the United States is driven by livestock and poultry consumption, and it is an export for animal consumption. In fact, more than 94 percent of the domestic soybean meal is consumed by livestock and poultry. Also, soybean meal is the preferred protein of choice in pork and poultry diets throughout the world.

Overall, the livestock industry is scrutinized for several reasons, primarily as a contributor to water pollution and environmental degradation. Nuisance lawsuits citing air quality and odor continue to challenge livestock production. The U.S. soybean industry can have a positive impact by providing higher quality soybeans, and by developing and capitalizing on those market opportunities.
