High Demand for Healthy Oil
While three out of four consumers view soy-based products as healthy, many are also taking efforts to cut the trans fats, produced by hydrogenation, out of their diets. The food industry has responded by reducing or eliminating soybean oil from their products.
Soybean farmers have been working for some time to get a healthier profile for their soybeans, and QUALISOY is the critical next step in bringing these technologies to the market.
Below are the oil traits that QUALISOY is working toward:
- Reduced saturates (less than or equal to 7 percent)
- Reduced linolenic acids (less than or equal to 3 percent)
- Increased oleic acids (greater than 50 percent)
Currently, QUALISOY is working to market three soybean varieties that are commercially available.
