Soybean Varieties on the Market/Participating Companies
Better Oil Is on the Market
As part of an effort to efficiently and effectively commercialize new soybean technologies,
QUALISOY™ is currently aiding in the marketing of three different low linolenic soybean
varieties. The oil that is produced from these varieties is in high demand from customers
such as the food industry.
Participating organizations include:
- Monsanto VISTIVE™ - A low linolenic soybean variety through conventional breeding that
will reduce or eliminate trans fatty acids (trans fats) in processed soybean oil.
VISTIVE soybeans, which will have the Roundup Ready® trait, contain less than 3 percent
linolenic acid, compared with 8 percent for traditional soybeans.

- Pioneer® Low Linolenic Soybeans –Pioneer soybean variety 93M20 features a low linolenic
acid profile of less than 3 percent and offers better natural stability and increased
shelf life. The resulting oil is marketed through Bunge North America as TREUS™ Low Lin
Soybean Oil. When used for frying, low linolenic oil eliminates the need for partial
hydrogenation in some applications.
